Marie and Lucy have been matched for a short seven months. They both have a lot of fun together and have quickly developed a close relationship. Marie and Lucy are both from the UK and relised after that had been matched that they were from the same area in England. Lucy fits in easily with Maree’s family and looks forward to time they get to spend together.

Recently Leon and Elijah celebrated their FOUR year anniversary. Elijah was matched with Leon when he was 10. They have alot in common and enjoy one another’s company. Leon has been a sounding board, a support and most importantly a consistent presence in Elijah’s life over the past

four years. This relationship has made a real difference in Elijah’s life especially through the ups and downs of life. They are looking forward to the next 12 months!

New Matches!

We are always excited to make new matches. This month saw us make another two. Luke had been on our waitlist for some time. He had watched as his brother and sisters had been matched with a BBBS mentor over the years and wanted a piece of the action for himself. We were thrilled to match him with Richard. They both share a passion for the outdoors and are looking forward to spending some time together.

After being displaced with her family after the February 22 Earthquake Jactina was looking for some extra support in a mentor. We were again thrilled to be able to match Jacinta with Anne. They both share a love for the arts and will spend their time tackling some crafts. Jacinta was excited to meet Anne and cant wait to get to know her more.

Hokitika’s Annual Driftwood and Sand Competition 2012

The winner of the children’s section of the Hokitika 2012 Driftwood and Sand competition was Skyla who is being mentored by Sue. This is an annual competition held at the end of January each year on the beach in Hokitika and participants are challenged to design a unique work of art out of the driftwood on the Hokitika Beach. Sue has given Skyla all kinds of experiences that most children would never have. What started off as school based mentoring has branched out into school based plus mentoring where Sue and Skyla have been having regular outings during the school holidays. Skyla’s Mum lives out of town so Sue has become a fantastic role model and built a beautiful friendship that will long outlive the programme. The two have been matched for nearly two years.
